Digital Marketing Trends 2016Monika Jansen
There is always something new and interesting happening in marketing, isn’t there? This look at the top digital marketing trends 2016 sure drives home that point, so here’s what to keep your eye on as we move into the new year.
What it is: Very short and concise messages that disappear quickly.
How to use it: Snapchat anyone? Not only do people appreciate the fleeting nature of the message, users actually HAVE to view all new messages when they log in to Snapchat, ensuring your message gets seen.
Internet of Things
What it is: The network of physical objects or “things” embedded with electronics, software, sensors, and network connectivity, which enables these objects to collect and exchange data.
How to use it: IoT tracks people’s day-to-day habits (hello, Big Brother!), resulting in massive amounts of data. Analyze that data, and you’ll be better positioned to engage with your clients.
Personalized URLs (PURLs)
Hat tip to my friend Borzou for this idea.
What it is: A unique landing page created for a specific person.
How to use it: Provide each person who receives your direct mail or email marketing campaign with their own PURL, where they can take action, find more information, etc. This is a great opportunity to provide a highly personalized experience and greatly increase conversion rates.
What it is: Self-explanatory.
How to use it: Every interaction your clients have with your small business must be straightforward. Make sure your website is easy to navigate, your messaging is easy to understand, and your email marketing is minimal but powerful.
What it is: Viewing and valuing your clients as long-term, not short-term.
How to use it: Deliver personalized content to your clients (based on past purchases, etc.) to build loyalty.
What it is: Upfront honesty.
How to use it: Tell people before they ask. Be open about all aspects of your business. If you do, people will quickly trust you and become clients for life.
Video ads in Google search results
What it is: Thanks to the popularity of video online, Google search results will begin including video ads in 2016.
How to use it: If you choose to advertise online, consider investing in a video for your ad. It is likely many small businesses will not, which could very well give you a leg up on the competition.
