The 5 Best Ways to Curate Content for Social Media Marketing

Besides sharing all of the wonderful, interesting, useful, and valuable content that you create on social media, it’s also a smart move to share the content that others create for a few reasons:

  1. You’ll be sharing even more useful content
  2. You’ll build relationships with the brands whose content you share
  3. You’ll become the go-to source of tips, trends, and news
  4. You’ll stay up-to-date on everything that is happening, whether or not you share it

Because you don’t have all day to comb the Internet for valuable content, here are tips based on what I do that will help you curate content for social media marketing:

1. Read other blogs

This is my top go-to source of content. I get to see what other experts are writing about. I gain valuable insights while learning from them. And I work to build relationships with them by leaving comments.

2. Subscribe to industry publications

My other go-to source of content is industry-specific publications. For instance, I subscribe to a few SmartBriefs, which actually curate content for me on specific topics – bonus! Then there are the digital versions of magazines that deliver even more great content than their print versions.

3. Look at the content influencers are sharing

If an influencer in your industry is sharing something, chances are it’s pretty good stuff – plus you can pretty much guarantee they already vetted it. Once a week, look up a few influencers on Twitter and see what’s in their stream. Pull out your favorite nuggets.

4. Search with hashtags

Every morning, I do a search through my Twitter feed for shareable content. The easiest way to do this is via hashtags, natch. Make a list of the top hashtags for your industry and see what people are talking about and sharing.

5. Set up Google Alerts

I have found that Google Alerts work best for very specific keywords/topics. For example, “top Instagram trends” rather than “Instagram.” You might have to play around with keywords til you get the right mix going, but this is a great way to keep the content coming to you (rather than going out to look for it!).
