What Kinds of Facebook Posts Get the Most Engagement?

Are you trying to increase engagement with your small business’s Facebook posts? Social media engagement is important for increasing awareness of your business among prospective customers, but knowing exactly how to increase Facebook likes can be tricky. Here are 8 tips to help you create posts that get more Facebook engagement.

  1. Be helpful. Think about ways that your business can help customers solve a problem, improve their lives or do something better. Then share these suggestions on Facebook. Providing helpful tips will get more prospective customers to like your Facebook page. You can also share links to other people’s content — as long as it’s relevant to your business and provides helpful tips.
  1. Use a compelling image. Facebook is highly visual, and posts with images get much more attention than those that are strictly text. Choose images that are visually appealing and reinforce your brand (make sure you have the rights to use the images). Try to incorporate your business’s logo in a way that doesn’t overpower the image, but still serves to reinforce your brand in the viewer’s mind.
  1. Understand the different types of engagement on Facebook. For example, general engagement is more fun-oriented, such as getting lots of likes. Meaningful engagement, on the other hand, drives action, such as getting the viewer to click through a link and visit your website. Aim for a mix of posts, some oriented towards general engagement and others towards meaningful engagement. Being too call-to-action oriented all the time will turn readers off.
  1. Know what to expect from your target audience. The type of business you own will affect the way that viewers engage with your business on Facebook. For example, if you’re a plastic surgeon, you probably can’t expect a lot of viewers to comment on your posts or share them with friends, since they may not want others to know that they’re interested in plastic surgery. However, they are likely to read tips on how to select a good plastic surgeon or what to expect after surgery. On the other hand, if you own a restaurant, viewers are more likely to share your posts or leave comments, since visiting a restaurant is a social event that people want to share with their friends. Having clear expectations will help you set realistic goals for Facebook engagement.
  1. Keep it relevant. A common mistake small business owners make on Facebook is using their business page as their personal page and posting personal opinions, photos or other content that’s not relevant to your business brand. Always have a clear reason for posting that relates to your business goals and reinforces your brand.
  1. Shorter is better. If your Facebook captions are too long, you’ll lose readers. Try to keep your Facebook captions to a maximum of two or three sentences and no more than 500 characters in length.
  1. Proofread carefully. Spelling and grammatical errors can make your business look unprofessional, which will make viewers less likely to do business with you. Always double-check your accuracy before you click “Post.”
  1. Put yourself in the customer’s shoes. Before posting, always ask yourself, “is this something my customer would care about?” By envisioning your Facebook posts from the customer’s point of view, you’ll find it easy to stay relevant while also improving your Facebook engagement.
