There is so much small business owners need to know to operate at peak performance. Luckily we live in the Information Age with plentiful resources. To help you sift through some of the data, every week we’re going to look at three business books and the lessons you can learn from reading them.

Double Double: How to Double Your Revenue and Profit in 3 Years or Less ($22.95)

The author, an entrepreneur and coach, has an impressive background. He took 1-800-Got Junk? from $2 million in annual revenues to $102 million in about six years. He has developed a plan that he says can help you double your revenues and your profits, and–because everything about your business presumably will be more efficient—you and your employees will also double the amount of free time you all have.

An ambitious promise, to be sure, but this is a thorough book that walks you through the process from preparing for fast growth by creating a “Vivid Vision” to focusing on the things that will help you achieve that growth, such as better communications, leveraging technology and improving marketing. Then Herold walks you through how to improve your leadership skills.

There is so much valuable information here, it’s definitely a book worth reading.

The Doing Good Model: Activate Your Goodness in Business ($19.95)

Shari Arison has a seemingly simple mission—she wants to “be a catalyst for bringing about positive change.” In her first book, Activate Your Goodness, Arison wrote about how doing good enriches your life and the lives of those around you.

Here she tackles the business side, explaining how “everyone benefits when companies value people and the planet, alongside profits.” Arison presents 13 “human-oriented” values that enable small business owners to think about the impact they’re having on the world.

With this book Arison wants businesses to embrace the philosophy that every one of us deserves abundance. It’s hard to argue with that.

Business Development for Dummies ($24.99)

This is another really helpful Dummies book, this time tackling the often-tricky subject of business development. Like all Dummies books, this one is filled with callouts, checklists, charts and tables, making it easy to digest the information even if you’re completely new to this topic.

The author walks you through the biz dev process, from figuring out what your plan is (if you even have a plan) to accessing your competition to learning how to manage risk.

If you want to improve your business development game, this book would be a great addition to your entrepreneurial library.
