5 Simple Blog Design Tips That Can Boost Your Number of Subscribers | SMB Forum by Web.com

Happy blog subscribers

Are you creating valuable, useful, and interesting content on a regular basis but are seeing small, flat or no growth to your subscriber base? I want to redo my own website, so I did some research to uncover simple blog design tips could really help boost my (and your) number of subscribers. Here’s what I found:

Sexy up your site’s overall design

When it comes to marketing, looks are everything. If your website is not clean, eye-catching, sleek, and sexy, consider revamping it with a modern new template (aka, theme). WordPress has plenty to choose from, as do other sites like ThemeForest. Your developer (or you, if you’re technical) can move over your current content and have a beautiful new site up and running fairly quickly.

Use up to 3 colors – but that’s it

Your blog needs 3 colors – but no more. You’ll have one main color (check out the psychology of colors here before you choose one!), one gray color that can be used for secondary messaging, and one contrast color that will be used to make calls-to-action pop off the page.

Remember: Use that contrast color sparingly! Your calls-to-action must grab the eye and direct people to take the ONE action you want them to take. Do not give them choices!

Make your ask prominent and persuasive

If you want people to sign up to receive your blog posts in their inbox, you have to 1) ask, and 2) make that ask prominent (per the above suggestion, use that contrast color!).

Seal the deal by going one step further and reminding them of the valuable content they’ll receive when they subscribe. Instead of just, “Sign up for my blog!” it should be “Sign up today to start receiving social media tips and advice that will take your marketing to the next level!” That’s kind of wordy, but you get my drift.

Repeat call-to-action design

Your calls-to-action should look pretty much the same from one page to the next. The wording can be different, but the entire design and style should be consistent. Consistency breeds familiarity.

Add social proof

If you want to convince your future subscribers of the value your blog provides, consider addding social proof in the form of testimonials. It could be from those who are prominent in your field and can speak to your character/the value you provide or from subscribers who have reaped rewards by following your advice. These quotes can be added to your blog’s home page, sign up page and to the side bar/side rail on your blog.
