Women in Business Tip: How to Build Your ConfidenceRieva Lesonsky
Are women business owners still suffering from a lack of confidence? With all the strides women have made and more jobs being created by women-owned businesses than ever, can this still be true? According to the authors of Womenomics, who interviewed successful women all over the nation, there is definitely still a confidence gap. Self-doubt tends to become a self-fulfilling prophecy, so it’s important to nip it in the bud, or at least shove it down deep and out of the way. Here are three tips to build your confidence yourself (without having to make a therapy appointment):
- Encourage yourself. It might sound silly, but the next time you’re feeling insecure, remind yourself of who you are and what you’ve accomplished. Imagine that you are advising a fellow business owner or friend and trying to build their confidence. What would you say? Tell yourself the same.
- Knock a challenging task off your to-do list: If you’ve been putting off something because you’re not sure you can do it or are worried it’s too tough, do it now just to prove to yourself that you can.
- Sign on as a mentor. Nothing builds your confidence in your own abilities like sharing them with another. Mentor a startup business and you’ll find how much you really do know. Bonus: You’ll help a fellow entrepreneur raise her confidence, as well.
