How to Set Up Windows 8 Email

Important: You must log into a Microsoft account to use Windows 8 Email. This is usually configured during Windows 8 installation and configuration.

Overview

This article presumes that you already have a Microsoft account for Windows 8. If you still need to set up your Microsoft account, go to your Windows 8 settings and create an account.

How to Configure Windows 8 Mail

Follow the instructions below to configure Windows 8 Mail:

  1. Click the Mail icon on your device or search for it in the search box.

  2. Click View all in Settings if it is your first time setting up your email. 
    • If you have already set up an account, you will be taken to the mailbox view. To show the menu, move your mouse to the right or swipe left. Go to Settings, select Accounts, then click on Add an account.

  1. On the window that opens, select Other account.

  2. Choose IMAP, then click Connect.

Note: Windows 8 Mail is compatible with IMAP but does not support POP3.

  1. Add the Email address and Password of the account you are configuring in the empty fields, then click the Show more details link.

  2. If you need your email settings, locate them by entering your domain name below and clicking the Submit button. Once you have entered the required information, click Connect to finish your setup.

The email settings are explained in detail below.

  POP IMAP
Email Address:  The email address you are setting up. The email address you are setting up.
Incoming Mail Server: A system that receives an email. The server is found in the above results. A system that receives an email. The server is found in the above results.
Incoming Server Port: 995 - A setting mail server used for receiving an email. 993 - A setting mail server used for receiving an email.
Outgoing Mail Server: A system that sends emails. The server is found in the above results. A system that sends emails. The server is found in the above results.
Outgoing Server Port: 587 - A setting mail server used for sending an email. 587 - A setting mail server used for sending an email.
Outgoing Server (SMTP) requires authentication: Yes - Your full email address and password Yes - Your full email address and password
SSL/TLS: Enable this option. Enabling SSL and using TLS ensures your email remains secure. Please be sure you are using a mail app that supports TLS 1.2. Enable this option. Enabling SSL and using TLS ensures your email remains secure. Please be sure you are using a mail app that supports TLS 1.2.

Your email account is now set up, and you can use Windows 8 Email.
