Cloud Mail Password Requirements and Management

Protecting your professional email account is crucial in today's digital world. This guide focuses on Cloud Mail password requirements and management for Web.com customers. Here, you'll discover how to set up strong passwords, update them through your Account Manager or Webmail, and regain access if you forgot your password. We'll also discuss weak password detection to protect your Cloud Mail from unauthorized access.

It is extremely important to ensure that your password is strong to protect your mailbox by restricting unauthorized users from accessing it. Setting up a complex password makes it difficult for a hacker to obtain your password, whether by a brute force attack or an automated machine attack.

In this article, we will discuss:

Password Requirements

Your Password must meet the following requirements:

  • Must be at least 12 characters (Note: maximum of 32 characters permitted).
  • Must contain:
    • At least one uppercase character
    • At least one lowercase character
    • At least one number (0-9)
  • Must not be the same as your current password or previous 5 passwords.
  • Must not include any portion of your email address - including your domain name.
  • Should not contain any personal information.

Here are a few examples of bad passwords:

  • Password
  • 12345678
  • Your domain name or name
  • aardvark, honey, badger, lightswitch, or any single dictionay word

Here are a few examples of good passwords:

  • Gfd#Fr4Vw29!
  • KGguw@Td223d

Manage Email Password from Account Manager

As an authorized contact on the account, it is vital to secure the passwords of the mailboxes. Occasionally, a user will need to reset the password.

Follow the steps below as an authorized contact to reset the Email box passwords from within your Account Manager.

  1. Log in to https://www.web.com/my-account/login.
  2. On the left side of the page, click Email.
  3. On the Mailboxes tab, select the mailbox for which you are resetting the password, then click Manage.

  4. Go to the Account Info section, then click Change next to Password.

    • Alternatively, you can click on the three-dotted icon beside the mailbox you want to update, then select Change Password from the options.

  5. Enter and confirm the password following the password requirements, then click Save.

The password is now updated!
Important: You will need to update any email programs (ex. Outlook) or devices you use to access your email with this new password. Refer to the instructions for your email program or device for further information.

Changing Password in Webmail

Follow the steps below to reset your password on the webmail sign-in page.

Important: You need to set up a password recovery email before you can reset your password.
  1. In your preferred browser, type mail.yourdomain.ext.

    Example: If your domain is example.com, you will type mail.example.com

  2. Enter your email address, then click Continue.

  3. Click Forgot your password? link.

  4. Complete the Captcha, then click Next.

  5. Enter the 6-digit code sent to your recovery email address, then click Next.
    Confirm your identity. Please enter the 6-digit code
You can now reset your password.
Important: You will need to update any email programs (ex. Outlook) or devices you use to access your email with this new password. Refer to the instructions for your email program or device for further information.

Weak Password Detection

If your password is weak or does not meet our complex requirements, you will be required to reset your password. Upon signing into your email account, a pop-up may appear stating that the system has detected that your current email password does not meet the password requirements.

If you receive this message, you must create a stronger password. Please see Password Requirements for help creating a strong password. This is a security requirement, so you re unable to opt out this requirement.
